The NV Rosé from Nyetimber is a textured and generous wine with a core of bright red fruit, evocative of the English summer. It is a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier with beautiful aromas of wild strawberries, redcurrants and shortbread. Creamy and rounded in texture, it has a wonderfully elegant and silky finish.

Disgorged in February 2020 and based on the 2016 vintage, Nyetimber`s latest NV Brut Rosé is showing very nicely, mingling scents of cherries and strawberries with hints of mandarin, plums and spices. Medium to full-bodied, seamless and complete, with a vibrant core of elegantly fleshy fruit, bright acids and a pillowy mousse, this has turned out very well. In fact, it`s the finest rosé I`ve tasted from this address.

The NV Rosé based on the 2016 vintage was bottled in April 2017 and disgorged in February 2020. The nose is equidistant in style between the 2014 and 2015 base and is my pick of the three tasted here, very cohesive and delineated with red cherries, strawberry and rose petal scents. The nicely balanced palate features pear, raspberry and touches of wild mushroom and pawpaw. Toward the finish, it veers more to the slightly heavier style of the 2014 base, though I find more tension here. This is very promising. (February 2020 disgorgement)

World Class Sparkling Wine

Having planted its first vines in West Sussex in 1988, Nyetimber was one of the forerunners of the fine English sparkling wine boom, producing traditional method sparkling wines from estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes.

Based in the village of West Chiltington in a lea of the South Downs, Nyetimber owns vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent, where the geology and soils – principally the same chalk seam which runs under Champagne, along with greensand – are particularly suited to producing world-class sparkling wines.

Head winemaker Cherie Spriggs and her winemaker husband Brad Greatrix work with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards to ensure optimum fruit quality, while in the cellar, extended ageing and the benefit of an extensive collection of reserve wines ensures that each bottle leaving the winery displays a complexity and finesse which makes Nyetimber a benchmark producer of English sparkling wine.
