Nyetimber Blanc de Blancs 2003 is a vintage blanc de blancs sparkling wine produced in West Sussex, UK. Nyetimber has forged a reputation as one of the UK’s pre-eminent producers of Champagne-method sparkling wine. Produced from a single vintage and given extended time maturing on lees, this pure Chardonnay blanc de blancs was the first style ever produced at Nyetimber back in the early 1990s. From the memorably warm 2003 UK vintage, this is rich and oxidative with complex notes of creamy vanilla, toast and roasted nuts.

The 2003 Blanc de Blancs was bottled in spring 2004 and disgorged in August 2013. Like the 2001, this did not go through malo, as was the practice at the time. It has a similar nose to the 2001, very citric and maybe a little one-dimensional compared to earlier vintages. The palate is better balanced than the 2001, showing more harmony and tension, and the warmer vintage manages to counter the lack of malo in the winery (the low crop load also meant that there was more concentration). Bruised apple and just a hint of cherry linger on the finish. Neal Martin1st September 2021

World Class Sparkling Wine

Having planted its first vines in West Sussex in 1988, Nyetimber was one of the forerunners of the fine English sparkling wine boom, producing traditional method sparkling wines from estate-grown Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes.

Based in the village of West Chiltington in a lea of the South Downs, Nyetimber owns vineyards in West Sussex, Hampshire and Kent, where the geology and soils – principally the same chalk seam which runs under Champagne, along with greensand – are particularly suited to producing world-class sparkling wines.

Head winemaker Cherie Spriggs and her winemaker husband Brad Greatrix work with meticulous attention to detail in the vineyards to ensure optimum fruit quality, while in the cellar, extended ageing and the benefit of an extensive collection of reserve wines ensures that each bottle leaving the winery displays a complexity and finesse which makes Nyetimber a benchmark producer of English sparkling wine.
