Nuits-St-Georges Les Chaignots Robert Chevillon 2009 is a Premier Cru Pinot Noir from a producer often considered the definitive interpreter of this village’s terroir. The 2009 vintage was exceptionally warm and generous, resulting in a wine with a lush, ripe core of black cherry and plum fruit. Les Chaignots is situated on the northern side of the village towards Vosne-Romanee, typically yielding wines with more floral aromatics and silkier tannins than the rugged southern sites. This bottling combines the richness of the solar year with Chevillon’s signature structural precision, offering a savoury, earthy complexity and a long, velvety finish that is now entering its prime drinking window.

Chevillon`s 2009 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots is beginning to drink very well, bursting from the glass with a rich bouquet of raspberries and blackberries mingled with loamy soil, dark chocolate, spices, licorice and grilled game. On the palate, it`s medium to full-bodied, broad and fleshy, with a textural attack, ripe acids, a lavish core of concentrated fruit and fine, velvety but not yet melted tannins. This is a ripe, lusty and somewhat wild rendition of the domaine`s Chaignots that`s approaching early maturity. I`m looking forward to my remaining bottles.

The 2009 Nuits St. Georges Les Chaignots possesses notable freshness and verve while also showing the ripeness of the year, a very attractive combination. Freshly cut flowers, minerals and spices add energy and vibrancy to the dark red fruit. The Chaignots could use another year or two in bottle, but if opened in advance it is showing very, very well even today. Antonio Galloni1st April 2012
