Domaine Hudelot-Noëllat covers approximately 10 hectares spread over 4 villages and 15 different appellations. Originally founded in 1962 by Alain Hudelot, today the property is run by his talented grandson Charles van Canneyt, who also created a négociant business on the side. This cuvée comes from ‘Les Bas de Combes’, a lieu-dit in Nuits-Saint-Georges where the Domaine owns a 0.21-hectare plot. The 2016 vintage produced charming and potentially long-lived reds, with a winning combination of bright, expressive fruit paired with excellent acidity.
Vinous
(these vines from deeper, clay-rich soil were not frosted but nonetheless yielded a modest crop): Good bright red. Slightly high-toned aromas of medicinal cherry lifted by rocky minerality. Juicy and tightly wound, even a bit hard in the early going, with its cherry, menthol and licorice flavors complicated by mint and herb nuances and even a suggestion of citrus fruits. Shows good savory extract but could use more sweetness. The tannins come across as a bit dry today.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2018
