The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos des Thorey 1er Cru contains 1.5 hectares of 60-year-old vines and 1.5 hectares planted in 2012. Including 15% whole-bunch fruit, it has a fragrant, earthy bouquet that just needs a little more fruit intensity at this stage. The palate is supple and silky on the entry, red cherries intermingling with crushed strawberry and black pepper notes, leading to an elegant and approachable finish. It should give a decade’s worth of drinking pleasure. Neal Martin1st January 2020

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
