Vinous
(I tasted this and the following wines in the estate's grand cru cellar, which is typically 2 degrees C cooler): Subdued but very pure aromas of black fruits. Juicy, crunchy and intense in the mouth, with a salty complexity to the flavors of black raspberry and red licorice. Finishes very long, with fine-grained tannins and a sappy flavor of black cherry. This is Vincent's second vintage for this wine, which comes from vines that face southeast but also benefit from the cooling influence of the Combe de la Serrée.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2015

The 2013 Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Clos des Thorey had been racked the previous week. It is matured with 50% whole cluster and aged in 40% new oak. The nose is more expressive than the Corvées Pagets at the moment, with vibrant redcurrant and fresh strawberry scents interlaced with autumn leaves and wild hedgerow. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline tang on the entry, plenty of energy here, with impressive body and structure on the finish. Neal Martin30th December 2014

Top Flight Biodynamic Burgundy

Located between the Côte de Nuits and the Côte de Beaune in Prémeaux, Domaine de la Vougeraie was founded by Jean-Claude Boisset in 1999. The name was inspired by domaine’s significant vineyard holdings in the village of Vougeot, which is also Boisset’s home.

One of Burgundy’s leading domaines, Vougeraie owns about 40ha of vineyard in more than 30 different appellations of Burgundy, including the Grands Crus of Clos Vougeot, Musigny, Bonnes-Mares, Charmes Chambertin, Mazoyères, Corton Clos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne. The domaine vineyards have been managed biodynamically since 2001. The highest possible production values and strictest levels of quality control, including a state-of-the-art sorting table, are maintained for the domaine’s entire range of wines. The domaine’s general manager, Sylvie Poillot, has managed the winemaking team since Pierre Vincent departed for Domaine Leflaive.
