Alongside Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Domaine Leroy produces some of the most exclusive and sought-after wines in Burgundy. The estate was originally established in 1988 when the legendary Lalou Bize-Leroy acquired Charles Noëllat’s property in Vosne-Romanée. This particular cuvée comes from a small 0.69-hectare plot of vines in the climat of Aux Lavrières. The 1999 vintage produced an excellent harvest to round off Burgundy`s remarkable run of successful years during the 1990s.

Bright ruby-red. Deep, pungent aromas of currant, raspberry, dark chocolate and Oriental spices. Smooth but fresh and delineated, with a lovely fruit/acid balance and restrained sweetness. This makes the Allots seem almost brutal by comparison. Finishes with fine tannins and persistent, ripe fruit.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2001

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
