Originally established in 1868, Domaine Leroy is a prestigious Burgundy producer led by the dynamic Lalou Bize-Leroy. The estate is known for its biodynamic viticulture practices and extremely low yields that contribute to the concentration and complexity of its wines. This particular cuvée comes from a small 0.69-hectare plot of vines in the climat of Aux Lavrières. The 1996 vintage in Burgundy was considered quite good, with a cool and wet spring followed by a warm and sunny summer. The weather conditions led to a late harvest, but the grapes achieved optimal ripeness and balance.

Black fruit, violet and flowers on the nose. Very intensely flavored and generous in the mouth; spicy dark fruit flavor already shows more complexity than the Allots. Very long and firm on the aftertaste.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1998

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
