Domaine Leroy Nuits-Saint-Georges Aux Allots 1997 is a Pinot Noir from a village-level lieu-dit in the Côte de Nuits. Lalou Bize-Leroy’s biodynamic approach and extremely low yields result in wines with concentration that rivals many Grand Crus. The 1997 vintage was warm and produced supple, forward wines with rich fruit profiles. The wine was fermented with whole clusters and aged in 100% new French oak barrels. It is a structured yet accessible wine offering notes of black cherry, damp earth and gamey nuances. Despite its village classification, the Leroy pedigree ensures a wine of immense soul and character, with refined tannins and a persistent, complex finish.

Red-ruby color. Sauvage aromas of black fruits, animal fur, leather, smoke and fresh blood. Quite firm, even hard, today; seems rather austere for a `97. Currently shows less middle-palate flesh to buffer the tougher tannins and thus comes across as a bit dry.Stephen Tanzer1st March 1999

Domaine Leroy

Burgundian Royalty

The Leroy name is a key pillar of the Burgundian wine scene and a leading light in the Côte d'Or, with three main strands: Domaine Leroy, Maison Leroy and Domaine d'Auvenay (a small, biodynamically farmed Domaine founded by Lalou in 1988).

In 1988, recognising the trend towards domaine bottling in Burgundy, Lalou Bize-Leroy purchased what would become Domaine Leroy: an estate situated in Vosne-Romanée (previously known by the name Domaine Noëllat). Domaine Leroy labelled wines are thus are produced from parcels of grapes grown on the 22ha of domaine-owned Côte d'Or vineyards, which span nine different Grand Crus. These wines are produced biodynamically and at extremely low yields, resulting in superbly concentrated expressions of the Burgundian terroir.
