Founded in 1840, Château Nénin is a relatively large Pomerol estate with 32 hectares planted to Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. Only the very best parcel – 8 hectares in total – are used to create the Grand Vin. 2000 was an exceptional vintage across Bordeaux and this release from Château Nénin lives up to its expectations. A blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc, this is an opulent wine, boasting notes of juicy black fruits, liquorice, truffles and some wood spice.

The 2000 Nenin is a vintage that I last tasted three years ago. It’s very similar now, those traits of violet and camphor still infusing the red fruit and a touch of iron rust and truffle emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and peppery, with a rustic opening and coarse tannins. An unapologetically old-school Pomerol through and through. Neal Martin1st September 2021
