Napanook 2009 is produced from grapes grown in the prestigious Napa Valley, under the stewardship of Christian Moueix, renowned for his expertise in crafting Bordeaux-style wines. This particular vintage showcases a blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Merlot and 4% Petit Verdot. Designed for earlier enjoyment, Napanook offers a balance of fruit and structure, making it suitable for casual consumption alongside meals. Its nuanced profile features notes of blackberry, plum and subtle oak, reflecting the region`s terroir while maintaining the Moueix philosophy of finesse over boldness.

The 2009 Napanook is simply glorious. Sweet dark cherries, mint, tobacco, wild flowers and licorice all jump from the glass. The 2009 is a juicy, extroverted Napanook that impresses for its sheer pleasure and total harmony. Layers of fruit continue to build to the huge, creamy finish. As good as the 2009 is today, I have a hard time thinking it won't be better in another few years. If anything, this is too serious a wine for an entry-level offering. The 2009 is 87% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Petit Verdot and 5% Cabernet Franc.

Dominus Estate

A First Growth in Napa

Along with Opus One, Dominus is one of the greatest examples of applying the Bordelais approach to winemaking to the great vineyards of the Napa Valley. Grapes are sourced from Yountville, specifically the historic Napanook vineyard, from which the winery's second wine takes its name.

The 'Grand Vin' is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot - a classic Bordeaux blend. After vinification, around 30% of the wine is loaded into new oak barrels for 15 months before bottling. Initial releases of Dominus met with mixed reviews, but since the late 1990s, the winery has established itself as one of the greatest in America.
