Mortlach 13 Year Old Ace of Spades Old Particular Douglas Laing 2004 is a single-cask Speyside malt bottled by the independent specialists Douglas Laing. Distilled in 2004 and matured for 13 years, this expression was released as part of the Ace of Spades series at a strength of 48.4% alcohol. Mortlach is known for its robust and meaty spirit character, which is elegantly highlighted in this bottling through a balanced maturation in a refill hogshead. It offers a profile of stewed fruits, toasted malt and a hint of savoury spice.

Mortlach

A Classic Speyside Malt

Located in Dufftown, at the heart of Speyside, Mortlach was the first legal distillery built in the area when it was founded in 1823. Mortlach has long been known for innovation and quality, distillery manager Alexander Cowie pioneered an unusual 2.81 times distillation over the standard double distillation technique which many say accounts for the bold, concentrated and spicy style that made Mortlach famous.

Distillery bottlings used to be rare, with the vast majority of the production going into Diageo's Johnnie Walker blends, but a recent rebrand and a relaunch has made a number of different age statements available to lovers of this wonderful Speysider. The Mortlach team have a preference for active Sherry casks when it comes to maturation, to match the full flavour of the spirit. A modern classic, the style would appeal to fans of Glen Grant, Macallan and Glenfarclas.
