Ramonet Montrachet 2008 is a full-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Grand Cru climat of Montrachet in the Côte de Beaune. based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Domaine Jean-Claude Ramonet is an acclaimed Burgundy estate producing some of Burgundy`s most highly regarded wines. Originally founded in the late 1920s by Pierre Ramonet, the domaine is currently run by Noël Ramonet and his brother Jean-Claude. Old vines and low yields form the foundation of Ramonet`s viticultural ethos, and vines younger than 18 years are not used in the top cuvées. "A highly expressive and radiant nose offers the purest fruit in the range as it offers up a mélange of upper register acacia blossom and freshly cut lemon-lime aromas trimmed in a discreet amount of wood. The nose is followed by strikingly detailed, stony and powerful broad-scaled flavours that culminate in a palate-etching finish of spectacular length. This is breath-taking stuff as balance is perfect and this should age well for years." Allen Meadows, 2010

The 2008 Montrachet Grand Cru from Domaine Ramonet was perhaps one of the most elegant vintages that I have encountered. Clear in hue, it offers an understated lemon thyme and melted candle wax nose that discretely opened over 45 minutes, crushed stone developing with each swirl, plus a hint of white mushroom. The palate has exquisite balance, the paradoxical blend of that Grand Crus intensity yet delivered in a package, perhaps because of the challenging growing season, that doesn’t create a fuss. Gorgeous lemon verbena, lime and nectarine notes on the finish that fans out with not so much audacity but graciousness. Utterly sublime.Neal Martin16th February 2024
