The 1996 Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières is a vintage that I have never tasted before. It has a straight-down-the-line, back-of-the-net, killer nose that epitomizes everything great about Jean-Françoise’s winemaking skill, that trademark deft reduction, astonishing delineation so sharp you could cut your finger on it. The palate is medium-bodied with walnut, oyster shell, struck flint and a subtle nutmeg note. This is a livewire Les Perrières that after over twenty years still has so much energy and frisson and is frankly, one of the finest Meursaults that I have encountered from the estate. Stunning. Tasted at the La Paulée in Beaune. Neal Martin1st May 2019
