Domaine d’Auvenay is named after Lalou Bize-Leroy’s home, an old hunting lodge outside Saint-Romain which she shared with her husband Marcel until he passed away in 2004. Bize-Leroy and her sister inherited the property from her father in 1980, and she eventually bought her sister’s share in 1990. The estate amounts to just under four hectares but covers 16 different appellations. This particular cuvée comes from the Meursault Premier Cru ‘Les Gouttes d`Or’, and it was first produced in 1996. 2007 was a classic vintage for white Burgundy, with brisk acidity, terroir-driven fruit and excellent potential to age.

The 2007 Meursault Gouttes d'Or is strikingly beautiful. Sweet layers of perfumed fruit flow gracefully across the palate in this fragrant, silky white. The wine blossoms beautifully through the mid-palate and finish, showing fabulous persistence. All of the elements are in the right place in this finely sculpted, articulate Meursault. I loved it.
