The Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate was formed in 2001 when Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey – both from Burgundy winemaking families – joined forces. Today they produce wines from approximately 13 hectares of vineyards, situated in the villages of Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet and Meursault. This particular cuvée hails from Les Genevrières, a Premier Cru in Meursault where they own a tiny plot. The 2008 vintage in Burgundy was challenging for white wines due to adverse weather conditions. Cool temperatures and variable weather patterns resulted in lower yields and slower ripening of grapes. However, despite the difficulties, many producers were able to craft wines with good acidity and freshness.

Pale, green-tinged yellow. Perfumed, high-pitched nose melds lime, wild herbs and lavender. Very rich, ripe and sweet; a large-scaled wine with considerable power and compelling ripeness of fruit. Hazelnut and vanilla notes add to its immediate appeal. Colin is convinced that the longer elevage in 2008 resulted in wines that are much less exotic than they might otherwise have been (shades of 2003?), which led me to wonder about some very early-bottled wines I tasted elsewhere.Stephen Tanzer1st September 2010

High-toned nose that’s pretty hidden at the moment. Blossomy top notes. Lots of mass and charm on the palate – tastes rather sweeter than most of his wines. Very distinctive, like all his wines. Should be a lovely bottle. Very slightly nutty. Very long – bigger boned than most of his wines. (JR)Jancis Robinson16th November 2009

Minimalist approach to Burgundy wines

Established in Chassagne-Montrachet in 2001 through the collaboration of Pierre-Yves Colin and his wife Caroline Morey (both hailing from historic Burgundy winemaking families) the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey estate comprises approximately 13 hectares of vineyards across the appellations Saint-Aubin, Chassagne-Montrachet, Santenay, Puligny-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the eldest son of St-Aubin winemaker Marc Colin. Since leaving his family domaine in 2005 to launch his own winery, Pierre-Yves has become one of the most-lauded winemakers on the Côte d'Or. His approach is very much minimal-interventionist: no batonnage for whites; minimal racking and extended élévage across the board.

Pierre-Yves’ vineyard holdings are centred on the Côte de Beaune appellation of St-Aubin (including the Premiers Crus of Chatèniere, Champlots and Remilly) and Chassagne-Montrachet (including the Premiers Crus of Chenevottes and Caillerets).

Pierre-Yves’ cellar is shared with his wife, Caroline Morey. The daughter of Jean-Marc Morey, whose family has cultivated vines in Chassagne since the 16th century, Caroline created her own domaine in 2014.
