The 2001 Meursault from Henri Boillot is a white Burgundy made exclusively from Chardonnay, sourced from multiple vineyard parcels within the Meursault appellation. Domaine Henri Boillot, established in 1885, is known for its meticulous vineyard management and substantial holdings in this region. This vintage exhibits a bouquet of mature notes including toasted nuts, buttered brioche and hints of white truffle, complemented by dried apricot and lemon zest. The palate is full, revealing flavours of ripe fruit against a backdrop of mineral earthiness and persistent acidity, reflecting the wine`s potential for further ageing.
89 Vinous
(a blend of equal proportions from Narvaux, Tillets and Chevalieres). While there is a hint of oak, it is already almost completely integrated with lovely, remarkably refined and pure flavors that display classic Meursault flavors of hazelnut, brown butter and a delicate roasted nut character plus superb persistence. A first rate villages and a stunning success for the vintage. Chapeau!

Father and Son

In some ways, Henri Boillot has one foot in the past and one in the present. His family domaine, which he manages with his son Guillaume, has a history dating back to the 1880s, but the wines produced from their Meursault-based winery are undeniably modern, approachable and ranked among some of the very best in the region. Alongside operating a highly successful négociant business, the Boillot family own around 14 hectares of vineyards in the Côte de Beaune including a Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru monopole in the form of Clos de la Mouchère.

The winery don't shy away from the use of new oak and any overtly woody character is generally well balanced by ripe fruit. The Chardonnays range from citrus driven and fresher at the villages level all the way to ripe, tropical and creamy at the Grand Cru level. The reds are lighter and more elegant than they used to be with Henri's son Guillaume preferring a less extracted style of Pinot Noir.
