Genevrières is one of Meursault’s largest premier cru sites, planted entirely to Chardonnay. Here Domaine Michelot cultivates two parcels at the mid-slope level, between 250 and 275 metres above sea level. The stony soils are reflected in the intense minerality of this cuvée, which is complemented by notes of honey, roasted nuts, hints of tropical fruits and finely integrated oak.
Vinous
- (from vines picked near the beginning of the harvest; just about finished with its malolactic fermentation): Pale yellow color. Aromas of peach, white pepper and menthol. Nicely concentrated flavors of pineapple, stone fruits, clove and saline minerality juxtapose a subtle savory character with a sexy touch of sweetness. A step up in texture and length from Michelot's Meursault Charmes, which was quite silky, ripe and high-toned at the time of my visit but had barely started its malolactic fermentation. A tad phenolic on the back end.

Domaine Michelot has been owned and operated by the Michelot family for six generations and now comprises more than 19 hectares, including a number of notable Premier Crus in Meursault. The domaine is primarily recognised for the quality of their Chardonnays, which see a 6 - 12 hour cold pre-soak before fermentation, including malolactic. The finished wines are aged for 10 - 12 months in oak barrels, with around 15% being new oak, before they are blended in tank and rested for a further 5 - 6 months.

The village level wines are excellent, with an approachable ripeness, but it's the Premier Cru wines that truly show off the quality of the winemaking. The team producer four wines from argaubly Meursault's greatest hillside vineyards - Poruzot, Charmes, Genevrières and Perrières.
