Domaine Coche-Dury, established in the 1920s, is a prominent producer in Meursault, with approximately nine hectares under cultivation, primarily focused on Chardonnay. The 1997 Meursault presents a complex bouquet featuring notes of citrus peel, toasted hazelnuts and flinty minerals. On the palate, it offers a substantial yet refined profile, exhibiting layers of ripe pear, subtle earthiness and a hint of saline minerality. The texture is notably silky, leading to a lingering finish that reflects the wine`s terroir.

The 1997 Meursault Village has a fragrant bouquet of white flowers mingling with hazelnut and background notes of wet wool, perhaps becoming just a little diffuse with age. The palate is marked by a silver bead of acidity, and not as complex as I have found some overperforming vintages of Meursault Village to be, but redeemed by lovely, judicious lemon verbena and orange pith on the finish. Not the greatest Coche-Dury that I have tasted, but come on: it’s a 24-year-old village cru! (Two bottles tasted from different sources, one showing more fatigue than the other.)Neal Martin1st August 2021
