Arnaud Ente Meursault Clos des Ambres 2010 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Meursault appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Formed in the early 1990s, Domaine Arnaud Ente is a boutique wine estate covering approximately 4 hectares. Their top cuvées are fermented and spend their first year in older oak barrels, then transferred to tanks for about six months before bottling without fining or filtration. The Clos des Ambres is produced from most of the domaine’s older vines in the lieu-dit of En l’Ormeau. On the 2010. "Ente’s 2010 Meursault Le Clos des Ambres is impeccable. It is also quite closed in on itself. Today, it is the minerality that dominates, but there is no denying the wine’s pedigree and sheer class. With air, the aromas and flavours become vivid, nuanced and breathtakingly beautiful. The airy, ethereal finish is the stuff dreams are made of. This is simply drop-dead gorgeous." The 2010 Meursault Clos des Ambre is poured from a rare magnum. There is a very heavy reduction on the nose that even a vigorous decanting is unable to dislodge. There is amazing intensity on the palate with top notes of stem ginger and orange rind, but it provokes a discussion about how Meursault this Meursault is. Part of me thinks that in a decade it will evolve into a magnificent wine but for now, it articulates more the winemaking than the terroir and I prefer the 2010 Bourgogne Blanc tasted a month later. Tasted at the Xmas lunch at Trinity in London.

Balance and Complexity

A leading light in Meursault, Burgundy, Arnaud Ente and his wife, Marie-Odile craft exquisite micro-production Burgundies that easily compete with the finest in the region. The Domaine owns four hectares which are managed with a very small and hands-on team. The key grape varieties here are Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, used to produce stand out Meursault, Puligny Montrachet and Bourgogne Pinot Noir that are renowned for their precision and elegance.

The style has tended towards the opulent, with late picking for fuller ripeness being a key part of Arnaud's philosophy in the 1990s. More recently though the wines have presented with greater levels of freshness and minerality as the winemaking practices have changed and evolved.
