Based in Gevrey-Chambertin, Domaine Armand Rousseau unquestionably sits amongst the greats of Burgundy with a portfolio of wines from some of the most revered vineyards in the region. In the words of wine critic Allen Meadows, "A brooding and very taciturn nose features a plethora of Gevrey-like elements including humus, underbrush, game and a whiff of the wild, all of which add breadth to the red and dark currant-scented aromas." Drink 2026-2050.
Vinous
(aging in 20% new oak--essentially the barrels the estate didn't need for their frost-reduced Chambertin): Good dark red. Wild, energetic aromas of raspberry and game birds. A step up in sweetness over the Charmes on entry, then quite firm and minerally in the middle palate, with harmonious acidity giving this intense wine very good definition. Finishes classically dry, serious and long, with an element of youthful austerity.
