Mazy-Chambertin Armand Rousseau 2012 is a Grand Cru Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most prestigious and sought-after domaines. Sourced from the `Mazy` (or Mazis) vineyard in Gevrey-Chambertin, this wine is typically the most delicate and perfumed of Rousseau’s Grand Crus. The 2012 vintage is intensely sensual, offering a bouquet of wild berries, peonies and raw cocoa with a lithe, silky texture on the palate. It possesses a refined mineral core and a persistent, orange-rind-scented finish that defines the elegance of the Gevrey terroir.

The 2012 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru offers up a deep bouquet of wild berries, red plums, smoked game bird, peonies, orange rind, raw cocoa and underbrush. On the palate, it`s medium to full-bodied, supple and enveloping, with powdery tannins, fine depth at the core and a lively spine of acidity, concluding with a pungently savory finish. This is an elegantly carnal Mazis that`s deceptively structurally accessible today, though it will really need another six or seven years in the cellar to arrive at the beginnings of real maturity. - William Kelley

Good medium red. Restrained aromas of licorice, smoke, game and earth. Supple, savory and deep, with compelling sweetness complicated by smoky and saline qualities. Soil- rather than fruit-driven but plenty ripe. Finishes sweet and long, with salty tannins and lingering smokiness.Stephen Tanzer1st January 2014
