Marsannay L’Ancestrale Sylvain Pataille 2013 is a Pinot Noir originating from the Marsannay appellation in Burgundy. This wine is crafted from some of the estate`s oldest vines, many over 70 years old, which are rooted in the region’s iron-rich clay soils. Utilising the Pinot Fin clone, the 2013 vintage reflects the cooler climate and challenging conditions of the year, resulting in a wine with structured acidity and notable phenolic depth. Pataille employs long macerations and minimal intervention in the cellar, aiming for a pure expression of terroir that reveals complex aromas of dark fruit, earthy notes and subtle spice.

The 2013 Marsannay l’Ancestral has a seductive floral bouquet with dried rose petals infusing the small dark cherries and blackcurrant fruit. There is also just a hint of orange rind developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with firm grip on the entry, fine acidity and structure, grainy in texture with a long masculine finish. This will need three or four years in bottle, but it will certainly be worth the wait. - Neal Martin
