Marie et Olivier Horiot Métisse NV is a non-vintage Champagne crafted in Les Riceys, Aube, by producers Marie and Olivier Horiot, known for their commitment to biodynamic farming. This cuvée typically features a blend of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, reflecting the diversity of their vineyards. The grapes are cultivated on Kimmeridgian marl soils and undergo spontaneous fermentation with native yeasts, often in old oak. As a Brut Nature, the wine has no added dosage, presenting an expression marked by tension and saline minerality, with notes of red fruit and a subtle complexity from its wood ageing.

The latest rendition of the NV Métisse, Horiot`s largest cuvée, is based on the 2019 vintage and unites the eight different terroirs of Les Riceys in a blend dominated by Pinot Noir and complemented by some 20% reserve wines. Offering up aromas of sweet orchard fruit, honeycomb, white flowers and smoke, it`s medium to full-bodied, rich and layered, with a seamless, chalky profile and a long, resonant finish. The base vintage renders this a particular success this year. - William Kelley
