Château Malartic-Lagravière 2005 exhibits an initially restrained nose that gradually reveals layers of complexity. Aromas of blackcurrant, plum and lightly roasted coffee emerge after a period of aeration, alongside subtle hints of graphite and earth. On the palate, the wine offers a medium body with firm, structured tannins and an interplay of dark fruit and herbal nuances. The finish is marked by a notable minerality and a faint touch of green pepper. Founded in 1846, Château Malartic-Lagravière is notable for being one of the few estates in Bordeaux to produce both red and white wines of distinguished quality.

Vinous
A modern, lush wine, the 2005 Malartic Lagraviere packs a serious punch. Inky red/purplish fruit, leather, smoke, tobacco and mocha all race out of the glass. This is an especially flamboyant style shaped by a good deal of new French oak, but the wood is now nicely balanced. I am pleasantly surprised to see how youthful the 2005 is. I would prefer to drink this succulent, racy Pessac-Léognan over the next decade or so.Antonio Galloni1st April 2021
