The Magdelaine 2000 is a mature Right Bank Bordeaux from the Pomero appellation. The nose reveals understated aromas of dark berries, with elements of plum and black cherry subtly interwoven with traces of damp earth and fine tobacco. On the palate, this wine exhibits a layered texture, where the rich fruit interacts with a structured framework of tannins that provide both depth and complexity. Suitable for further ageing.

Like most Magdelaines, this wine builds in increments rather than blasts from the glass. A worthy rival to the great 1998, the 2000 Magdelaine has a deep ruby/purple color and a sweet nose of mulberries, black currants, and jammy cherry notes intermixed with mineral, licorice, and a hint of subtle toast. This wine is sweet, expansive, and dense, with the gorgeous fruit hiding some relatively elevated tannin. The finish is long, and this classic needs a good to 4-5 years of cellaring. The 2000 Magdelaine has a slight touch of volatility on the nose with touches of meat juice and potpourri, but it's a bit rustic in the scheme of things. The palate is medium-bodied and burdened with some Brettanomyces. A healthy dose of cracked black pepper on the finish does not compensate for some dryness.
