Gordon & MacPhail is a renowned independent bottler of Scotch whisky that has been in operation since 1895. Their Connoisseurs Choice series is a selection of carefully chosen and unique single malt whiskies from various distilleries, often showcasing lesser-known or rare expressions. Each release in the Connoisseurs Choice series is bottled at its natural colour and without chill-filtration. This is a 13-year-old single malt distilled at Macduff, which is known for their fruity and malty character, with notes of apple, pear, and cereal grains.

Macduff

A Speyside Malt in Highland Clothing

The coastal Macduff distillery was established during the 1960s whisky boom on the right bank of the river Deveron beside the Moray Firth. This distillery is almost unique in Scotland for operating with an uneven number of stills (two wash stills and three spirit stills). The only other distillery with this unusual configuration is Talisker on the Isle of Skye. While located on the eastern edge of Speyside, Macduff bottles its malt as ‘Pure Highland Single Malt’.

Nowadays Macduff is part of the Dewar’s distillery portfolio (and a major provider of malt for Dewar’s blends). The distillery typically releases its subtly smoky/nutty style of single malt under the 'Glen Deveron' label (16-, 20- and 30-year-old expressions), although 'The Deveron' label is also in use. Independent bottlings from the likes of Gordon & MacPhail, Signatory and Hunter Laing use the Macduff name.
