Château Lynch-Bages 2014 is a Pauillac blend of 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 26% Merlot, 3% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot sourced from the deep Garonne gravels of the Bages plateau. The 2014 vintage was defined by a cool, damp summer that was redeemed by an exceptional Indian summer throughout September and October, allowing for late phenolic development and the preservation of high acidity. This bottling was aged for 18 months in 75% new French oak, displaying a more linear and athletic profile than the broader 2015. On the palate, the wine offers the classic Lynch-Bages power with concentrated notes of cassis, graphite and cedar, backed by a firm, granular tannic spine that suggests extensive cellaring potential.

The 2014 Lynch-Bages is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. The nose is a little restrained, slowly unfurling to reveal notes of blackcurrant jelly, kirsch, and sauteed herbs followed by wafts of cedar, leather, and dried lavender. The medium-bodied palate is tightly wound, with a lively line and firm, grainy tannins framing the taut fruit, finishing long and savory.Lisa Perrotti-Brown5th March 2024

The 2014 Lynch-Bages has a wonderful, precise, focused bouquet that exudes class. The oak is beautifully assimilated with superb mineralité. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins and a dash of white pepper and sage, gaining depth towards the harmonious and almost Saint-Julien-inspired finish. Probably ready now, but can drink over the next 15 to 20 years. Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting. Neal Martin19th March 2024

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
