Château Lynch-Bages 2012 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Pauillac appellation of Bordeaux. Château Lynch-Bages is one of the finest producers within the Pauillac appellation, known for making wines that combine structure and elegance. Since 1939, the estate has been successfully run by the Cazes family. This fully mature 1979 vintage was the first that Jean-Michel Cazes made after taking over for his father. "This has a very solid core of dark plum, crushed black currant and blackberry fruit, with lightly firm flesh and good drive through the finish, where alder and iron notes fill in. Shows excellent energy and depth, while harnessing the austere edge of the vintage." Wine Spectator, 2015

Medium to deep garnet colored, the 2012 Lynch-Bages offers broody notes of fried herbs, tar, and tobacco to begin, leading to a core of cassis and stewed cherries with a hint of cast-iron pan. The medium-bodied palate is firm, grainy, and refreshing with plenty of restrained youthful black fruits, finishing with a lively lift.Lisa Perrotti-Brown16th February 2023

The 2012 Lynch-Bages has a crisp, rather introverted, tertiary nose with touches of autumn leaves coming through with time. The palate is medium-bodied with chewy tannins, a little disjointed and conservative compared to others, but gains more weight towards its austere and grippy finish. Maybe hard-going at the moment, maybe it will loosen up? Tasted at the Lynch-Bages vertical at the château. Neal Martin1st July 2023

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
