From the renowned Paulliac 5ème Cru Classé Château Lynch-Bages, the 1989 vintage is considered one of the all-time greats. A wonderfully complex wine, with notes of cassis and pencil shavings together with floral and cigar smoke nuances, ripe tannins and wonderful definition on the finish.

One of the all-time great vintages for this château is the 1989 Lynch-Bages, a striking wine that offers up pure and intense aromas of cassis, pencil shavings, spring flowers and hints of cigar wrapper. Full-bodied, deep and multidimensional, it's seamless and concentrated, with a rich core of fruit, ripe tannins and a beautifully defined finish. Still an infant at age 32, it surpasses all three of Pauillac's first growths in 1989.William Kelley28th February 2022

The 1989 Lynch Bages remains a monumental achievement, perhaps the exemplar of an estate completely transcending its status. This bottle is consistent with my previous notes: stunning intensity with a cornucopia of black fruit, iodine, graphite and leather. Perhaps the palate is just a tad softer than the bottle tasted at the property a few weeks earlier, but I just adore the manner in which graphite and minerals boss the finish and assert its pedigree. At its (mighty) peak. Tasted at the 1989 Bordeaux dinner at 67 Pall Mall. Neal Martin2nd July 2024

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
