Château Lynch-Bages is one of the finest estates in the Pauillac appellation, known for producing wines that combine structure and elegance. Since 1939, the estate has been successfully run by the Cazes family, who also owns other properties in Bordeaux such as Château Haut-Batailley. This is its grand vin from the 1983 vintage, in a perfectly mature stage of its life. Expect notes of cassis, dried plums, tobacco, leather, wet hay and lead pencil.
88 Vinous
(5.6 g/l total acidity; 13% alcohol): Medium red with some brick at the rim. Deep but reticent aromas of redcurrant, tobacco leaf, licorice and tar; improved noticeably with aeration, picking up an aromatic floral quality. Juicy, round and suave, with good definition and a seamless texture to its redcurrant and soil flavors. The finish features sneaky complexity and ripe tannins, but not the grip or intensity of the best vintages of Lynch-Bages.

The Modern Pauillac

Situated in the celebrated Pauillac appellation in Bordeaux, Château Lynch Bages uses around 60% of its 100 hectares to produce its first wine (a 5th growth in the 1855 classification) in addition to producing a second red, Echo de Lynch Bages. These wines display superb Cabernet Sauvignon character, together with smaller percentages of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot making up the blend. A wonderful example of the power and elegance of truly great Pauillac: gloriously supple and smooth with a tannic backbone.

A white wine, known as Blanc de Lynch Bages, is also produced in very small quantities. Made from an elegant blend of the classic white Bordeaux varietals, Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon and Muscadelle, the resulting wines display exhilarating freshness and dried apricot complexity.
