Louis Roederer Cristal Rosé Vinothèque 2004 is a late-disgorged prestige-cuvée Champagne. The 2004 vintage is recognised for its harmony and depth, characterised by a blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its pale salmon hue suggests an intricate profile, revealing notes of red berries, toasted brioche and delicate spices. The Vinothèque designation implies over a decade of additional barrel maturation, enhancing the wine`s complexity. Available here in magnum.

The 2004 Cristal Rosé Vinothèque (magnum) is another stellar wine in this series of releases from Roederer. Exotic spice, blood orange, red-toned fruit and dried flowers all grace the palate. As good as the 2004 is, I find the aromatics not totally in place at this stage. This may need more time. Today I prefer the Blanc Vinothèque to the Rosé. Perhaps the high yields of the vintage were easier to address in the blending of Cristal than they were for the Rosé. I hope to have a chance to taste this again. Dosage is 8 grams per liter. Disgorged: June 2019. Antonio Galloni1st December 2025

Cristal

The Czar's Cuvée

Produced by the celebrated Champagne house, Louis Roederer, and with a history spanning over two centuries, Cristal is the pinnacle of the House’s production and is only made in the finest vintages. First commissioned by Tsar Alexander II to create a special personal cuvée, Cristal was reintroduced by the House in 1924 as the first prestige cuvée Champagne.

Only produced during the best years, Cristal is a blend of around 40% Chardonnay and 60% Pinot Noir, aged for six years in Louis Roederer’s cellars and left for a further eight months after dégorgement. A wonderfully vibrant and forward Champagne in youth, mature examples offer a complex, layered experience similar to that of a fine white Burgundy.
