Located within the Saint-Estèphe appellation Château Ormes de Pez is the second property – after Château Lynch-Bages – acquired by the Cazes family in 1939. The 2009 vintage is a blend of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, matured in 40% new oak. A classic rendition of Saint-Estèphe, with well-integrated tannins and fruit. Ready to be enjoyed now.

The 2009 Les Ormes de Pez has a strange nose at first, a little distant and missing the same fruit intensity as its peers. There is a slight dustiness here that translates over the palate. Good fruit concentration and grip, just a touch of greenness around the edges with a welcome dash of spice towards the finish. Thoroughly enjoyable if just missing some finesse. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting. Neal Martin1st March 2019
