Château Léoville Poyferré 2009 is a Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant red wine from the St-Julien appellation of Bordeaux. The estate has been in the Cuvelier family since 1920 and is currently overseen by Sara Lecompte Cuvelier, who has implemented modern viticultural practices, enhancing vineyard quality. The 2009 vintage presents a notable structure, with firm tannins and a complex profile featuring dark fruit and earthy undertones. It has an enduring finish marked by hints of chocolate, reflecting the character typical of its origin. Ideal for discerning collectors, this magnum format offers an extended ageing potential.
98 The Wine Independent
The 2009 Leoville Poyferre is medium to deep garnet-brick in color. It bursts from the glass with bombastic notions of kirsch, raspberry preserves, warm cassis, and stewed plums, plus suggestions of Ceylon tea, candied violets, and Indian spices. Medium-bodied, the palate is soft, plush, and seductive, delivering seamless freshness to lift the perfumed fruit to a long finish.Lisa Perrotti-Brown29th June 2022

The 2009 Léoville-Poyferré is a total pleasure bomb. Done in the more opulent style that was the norm then, the 2009 envelops the palate with plush dark fruit and soft contours. It is classic 2009. Our third flight is off with a bang. Antonio Galloni1st February 2023

Intense and concentrated, these were the years when Poyferré was turning up the exuberance, and this is intense but clearly great quality. You'll find crème de cassis, star anise, incense, cigar box, cassis and blackberry. Unusually for 2009, this is not yet ready and needs another four or five years to fully soften and open, but has got so much life ahead of it. Harvest September 29 to 12 October. 80% new oak.Jane Anson10th October 2024
