Château Léoville Poyferré 2004 presents a complex profile indicative of its prestigious St-Julien origins. This vintage combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, resulting in a wine that displays dark fruit character, with notes of blackcurrant and plum. Subtle hints of tobacco and earth complement the fruit, adding depth. Tannins are present but well-integrated, supporting a lengthy finish. Established in the 17th century, this estate has a reputation for meticulous vine management, contributing to its consistent quality. Best enjoyed now but possesses the structure to age for several more years.

Vinous
The 2004 Léoville Poyferré has a slight menthol note on the nose, mainly black fruit with a touch of licorice. It just needs a little more delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with a licorice-infused entry. It's done in a modern style (dare I say, typical of Michel Rolland at that time). An opulent finish just misses a bit of bandwidth. A little New World in style?
