The Tenuta dell`Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove dell`Ornellaia 2022 in magnum is the estate`s second wine, sourced from the same Bolgheri Superiore vineyards as the Grand Vin, but from younger vines and selected parcels. The blend is 50% Merlot, 31% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc. The 2022 vintage was marked by a dry, hot summer that led to a powerful and opulent style, yet the proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea provided a crucial cooling influence. It exhibits a dense aromatic profile of cassis, black cherry and Mediterranean scrub, supported by a full, generous palate and a long finish defined by smooth, polished tannins.

Excellent, full of energy and grip, love the lift here. Love that here you feel these Bordeaux grapes have a reason for being, they are bringing their own character and intensity, and feel like you are in coastal Tuscany, with dried herbs, fennel spice, raspberry, just a lovely lovely wine. You'd be super happy to open this now, but you can keep it. Higher Merlot than usual in this, and yet the tannins are present, providing a channel for the fruit to go through. 30% new oak, held back for six months in bottle.Jane Anson25th February 2025

The Ornellaia 2022 Bolgheri Rosso Le Serre Nuove dell`Ornellaia is a blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cabernet Franc that saw 15 months in barrique with one-third new oak. Following in the general Ornellaia philosophy, the team has been leaning off long maceration times for more delicate extraction. Blending for this wine usually occurs 12 months after fermentation. This vintage is structured and rich with sweet tannins and a supple texture. This hot vintage brings more fruit weight for sure, but the wine remains fresh and well balanced overall. - Monica Larner

The 2022 Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is everything a second wine should be. Open-knit and racy, the 2022 caresses the palate with succulent red fruit. Floral and spice notes with a kick of blood orange open the wine nicely on the mid-palate and into the finish. Soft, silky tannins wrap it all together. This stylish red from Ornellaia is ready to go.Antonio Galloni1st December 2024

A Legendary Super Tuscan

Founded in 1981 by Marchese Lodovico Antinori, the wines of the Ornellaia estate show remarkable consistency and are rightly considered an Italian great. Famed for its legendary Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated Super Tuscan wine (blended with a smaller percentage of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot), the Tenuta dell'Ornellaia lies near Bolgheri in Tuscany, on the Mediterranean coast. Renowned winemaker Axel Heinz was first appointed in 2002.

Starting with the release of the 2006 vintage in 2009, Ornellaia has produced the highly coveted Vendemmia d'Artista series; a celebration of the unique character of each new vintage in which a contemporary artist creates a work of art and a series of limited edition labels drawing inspiration from the single word chosen by the winemaker to describe the character of the new vintage. Celebrated contemporary artists have included Shirin Neshat, William Kentridge and Ernesto Neto.

The Ornellaia estate also produces a beautiful white wine, Ornellaia Bianco, which is a white blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier; the superb Sauvignon Blanc-dominant Poggio alle Gazze; a beautiful red Mediterranean expression known as Le Volte dell'Ornellaia; the 'second' red wine, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia and a late harvest Petit Manseng sweet wine known as Ornus.
