Based in Chassagne-Montrachet, Fontaine-Gagnard is a family-run Domaine with approximately 12 hectares of vineyards. It was formed in 1985 by Laurence Gagnard and her husband Richard Fontaine after Laurence inherited part of Domaine Gagnard-Delagrange. This release comes from the Grand Cru Le Montrachet, where the Domaine owns a tiny 0.08-hectare plot. The 2004 vintage is an elegant and understated expression, with complex notes of herbs, citrus fruit and white flowers.

Deep gold. Savoury with a green streak on the nose. Rich and round. Relatively low acidity. Not that complex. But clean enough. Just a bit simple. I suspect this is dramatically overpriced. (JR)Jancis Robinson24th May 2017
