Bouchard Le Corton 2009 is a full-bodied Burgundy red wine from the Grand Cru climat of Le Corton in the Côte de Beaune. Established in 1731, Bouchard Père & Fils now belongs to the Henriot family, who also own William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, and Champagne Henriot. As one of Burgundy`s oldest and largest landowners, they possess around 130 hectares of vineyards. This particular release hails from Le Corton, a historic vineyard where Bouchard owns a 3.55-hectare plot. "Reduction blocks the nose but there is excellent verve to the intense, pure, robust and beautifully well-detailed flavours that are underpinned by moderately rustic tannins, all wrapped in a reserved, structured, powerful and impressively persistent finish. Medium red. Sexy aromas of musky strawberry, minerals, botanical herbs, smoky oak and menthol. Fat, sweet and pliant, with rich red berry and spicy soil tones joined by a perfumed note of orange on the long, dry aftertaste. Showed lovely flesh and volume initially but shut down dramatically in the glass. Forget about this one for at least several years.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2012

Timeless legacy in Burgundy’s heart
Established in 1731, Maison Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest and largest wine estates in the Côte d’Or. In 1995, the estate was acquired by the Henriot family, whose portfolio also includes William Fèvre, Beaux Frères, Château de Poncié and Champagne Henriot. Bouchard boasts vineyard holdings totalling approximately 130 hectares, including 74ha of Premiers Crus and 12ha of Grand Crus, with as many as 450 different individual plots. While the maison’s vast mosaic of holdings are weighted towards the Côte de Beaune, the Côte de Nuits is also a major focus.
The maison’s original vineyard was purchased by Joseph Bouchard in Volnay Les Caillerets in 1775. Not long after Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus followed. Now one of four Bouchard monopole vineyards, Beaune Grèves Vignes de l’Enfant Jésus was once owned by the Carmelite order of nuns and is the source of Bouchard’s flagship wine. Bouchard’s extensive suite of wines is produced and aged at the state-of-the-art, gravity-fed Cuverie Saint Vincent in Savigny-lès-Beaune. Once bottled, the wines are stored beneath the historic Château de Beaune, built in the 15th century by King Louis XI and purchased by Bernard Bouchard in 1820.
With almost 300 years of savoir-faire, from its unrivalled multiplicity of terroirs, Bouchard stands as one of the most eminent names in Burgundy winemaking.
