Château Latour-Martillac is a Bordeaux wine producer from the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The estate makes Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant red blends as well as a dry white wine led by Sémillon. This release from the 2005 vintage showcases a nose imbued with black fruits, accompanied by notes of pepper and star anise. The palate mirrors this freshness, delivering a dark and vibrant expression with a dynamic interplay of tension and finely textured, gripping tannins.

The 2005 Latour-Martillac is dark and brooding in the glass. It possesses tremendous density and power, but less in the way of finesse. Dark red/bluish fruits, lavender, spice, menthol, game and scorched earth abound. This huge, potent Pessac-Léognan may turn out to be long-lived, but I would prefer to drink it sooner rather than later, as the huge tannins and angular contours are only going to become even more overpowering than they are today.Antonio Galloni1st April 2021
