Château Langoa Barton is a leading producer located in the Saint-Julien appellation, which was classified as a Third Growth in the prestigious 1855 Classification of the Médoc. Langoa Barton has been owned by the Barton family since 1821, whose portfolio also includes the neighbouring Château Léoville Barton. The 2000 vintage is showing a lively nose of deep red berry, baking spices, thyme, cedar, and floral hints. On the palate, expect a light, elegant mouthfeel and beautifully resolved tannins.
89 Vinous
- The 2000 Langoa-Barton is quite upfront on the nose, delivering lush black fruit, menthol, boysenberry and cedar, opulent for the vintage and quite precocious. The palate is lightly spiced and very cohesive, with saturated tannins and fine acidity, quite backward for a 2000 and less rustic than some of the millennials. It lacks a little complexity and mineralité on the finish and fades a bit in the glass.

Léoville Barton's Sister Château

Château Langoa-Barton is a 3ème Grand Cru Classé estate situated in Saint-Julien and is well-known for producing incredibly traditional and formidably tannic wines. The château has been in the Barton family for eight generations, a sister estate to the famous Léoville Barton.

The 20 hectares of vineyard are planted on classic gravel / clay soils and plantings are split between Cabernet Sauvignon (71%), Merlot (21%) and Cabernet Franc (8%). The wine is aged for around 18 months in 50% new oak using example the same techniques employed at Leoville Barton.
