Lafon Rochet 2004 presents a deep ruby color, with initial aromas of dark fruits such as blackberry and plum alongside notes of cedar and tobacco. The palate reveals a medium-bodied structure with moderate tannins and acidity, creating a balanced mouthfeel. Flavors of black currant and subtle spices emerge, with a hint of earthiness that adds complexity.
The wine is produced in the Saint-Estèphe region of Bordeaux, known for its gravelly soils, which contribute to the wine’s character. The 2004 vintage experienced a cooler growing season, resulting in a longer ripening period. This wine is a blend predominantly featuring Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and a smaller proportion of Cabernet Franc, reflecting the traditional Bordeaux winemaking style.

The 2004 Lafon-Rochet has an elegant, understated bouquet with clean redcurrant and raspberry scents. Mint and peony notes emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with edgy tannins, fine acidity, cohesive and focused with good weight on the finish. This appears to have blossomed in recent years and is worth seeking out. Tasted at the Lafon-Rochet vertical at the property. - Neil Martin
