Château Lafleur is undoubtedly one of the most highly prized estates in Pomerol and, since the Guinadeau family took over in the early 1980s, it has reached even greater heights in terms of quality, consistency and prestige. 2008 is a vastly underrated vintage that will almost always be overshadowed by the two once-in-a-generation vintages that followed it. That said, it is a charming, focused and fresh vintage that, although more readily drinkable in youth, has excellent cellaring potential. Unusually the blend contained a higher percentage of Cabernet Franc to Merlot, comprising 54% to 46%, respectively.

Vinous
The 2008 Lafleur is the surprise of the evening, and on this occasion, it had the audacity to outflank the 2009. Vivid blackberry, clove and crushed stone spring from the glass, bright and almost effervescent compared to the 2009. The palate has exquisite balance and poise, concentrated and structured yet more linear on the finish than the 2010. It gains persistency with aeration. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria. Neal Martin2nd September 2025

Pomerol's Other Superstar
Château Lafleur has come to be recognised as one of greatest producers in Pomerol, offering wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance, with distinct mineral character. A stand out name for Bordeaux's Right Bank, the estate also produces a second red, Les Pensées de Lafleur, produced from a 0.68ha plot with its own distinct terroir - resulting in a lighter, more fragrant style compared to the Lafleur.
Despite both wines being classic blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 20% new oak, the result is two quite different expressions: for example the the dominance of cigar-box and graphite Cabernet Franc complexity in the Lafleur.
