Château Lafleur is widely recognised as one of finest estates in Pomerol, producing wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance. The property is rather compact, covering approximately 4.5 hectares of vineyards. Its grand vin is a consistently high-scoring wine and very sought-after among collectors. This release is from the 2009 vintage, presented here in a Jeroboam. A blend composed of 53% Cabernet Franc and 47% Merlot, the wine is generous and rich, boasting notes of ripe dark fruit, cherry, blueberry and herbs.
99 Jancis Robinson
An absolutely prodigious blend of 55% Cabernet Franc and 45% Merlot, the 2009 Lafleur displays the tell-tale characteristics of this great estate. Kirsch liqueur, licorice and floral notes are intermixed with raspberry in a very full-bodied, super-intense, opulent and multi-dimensional style. Extraordinarily dense and pure, but not heavy by any means, the intensity, texture, and richness of the 2009 Lafleur are reminiscent of the perfect 1982. 95 Vinous
I have tasted the 2009 Lafleur several times, but on this occasion it is surpassed by not only the 2010, but the 2008. It doesn't quite have the delineation of those vintages, powerful and burly on the nose with a mixture of blueberry and blackberry, not as ferrous as previous bottles, but just requiring a little more delineation. The palate has weight and concentration in spades, lacquering the mouth with tannins. This gargantuan Lafleur delivers in dimension, but is not as sophisticated as other vintages. More impressive than classy by Lafleur's standards. Tasted from ex-château magnum at Kate & Kon's 40-Year vertical in Austria. Neal Martin2nd September 2025

Pomerol's Other Superstar
Château Lafleur has come to be recognised as one of greatest producers in Pomerol, offering wines of incredible balance, purity and elegance, with distinct mineral character. A stand out name for Bordeaux's Right Bank, the estate also produces a second red, Les Pensées de Lafleur, produced from a 0.68ha plot with its own distinct terroir - resulting in a lighter, more fragrant style compared to the Lafleur.
Despite both wines being classic blends of Cabernet Franc and Merlot with 20% new oak, the result is two quite different expressions: for example the the dominance of cigar-box and graphite Cabernet Franc complexity in the Lafleur.
