Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche 2003 is a Grand Cru Pinot Noir from a six-hectare monopole in Vosne-Romanée. The 2003 vintage was defined by a record-breaking heatwave, leading to an exceptionally early harvest and wines of unprecedented concentration. Despite the heat, La Tâche maintained its nobility and structural integrity, largely due to the deep roots of the old vines and biodynamic farming. This double magnum has allowed the wine to evolve with greater freshness, tempering the vintage`s natural opulence. It displays a full-bodied and velvety character with notes of chocolate-covered black cherries, oriental spices and rose petals.

The 2003 La Tache reveals aromas of milk chocolate, violets, roses, and dark cherries. Suave, displaying massive amplitude and a full-bodied, velvety-textured character, this behemoth’s flavor profile brings to mind chocolate-covered black cherries. Immensely powerful and noble, it offers an interminable finish that is packed with flawlessly ripe, sweet tannin. Projected maturity: 2013-2030.

($1029) Bright red-ruby. Wonderfully complex nose melds raspberry, rose petal, truffley underbrush and exotic spices. Then almost shockingly fresh in the mouth, with penetrating and rather delicate flavors of red berries and flowers. Still quite tightly wound but already offers compelling inner-mouth perfume. Finishes with building tannins and outstanding verve.Stephen Tanzer1st March 2006
