Located within the Pomerol appellation, Château La Pointe covers approximately 23 hectares, primarily planted with Merlot, complemented by some Cabernet Franc. The vineyards thrive in diverse soils, ranging from gravel, clay-gravel, to sandy compositions. Acquired by Generali France insurance company in 2006, this change in ownership ushered in a series of significant enhancements, encompassing improvements in viticulture and winemaking practices. This release is from the 2009 vintage, widely regarded as an exceptional year for Bordeaux. It was marked by a hot and dry climate, complemented by cool evenings, which facilitated the development of vibrant aromatics.
90 Robert Parker
This 2009 is the finest La Pointe ever! We can thank the new owners, who had the foresight to hire Hubert de Bouard as their consultant. This blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc from the relatively sandy soils of this vineyard, situated well-off the tenderloin plateau of Pomerol, has a dense purple color and oodles of plum sauce interwoven with blueberry, raspberry and black cherry notes. Full-bodied, opulent, fleshy and very sexy, it should be drunk over the next decade. - Robert M. Parker, Jr.
89 Vinous
(an 85/15 blend of merlot and cabernet franc): Medium red-ruby. Smoky plum, tobacco and a whiff of musky chocolate on the nose. Sweet, ripe and fine-grained, with good depth of texture and moderate definition to the cherry and raspberry fruit flavors. Finishes with pliant tannins, good length and a hint of menthol. This very accessible Pomerol offers considerable early appeal.
