Owned by the family firm Domaine Clarence Dillon, Château La Mission Haut-Brion can trace its history back to the 16th century. The prestigious estate is situated within the Pessac-Léognan appellation, a few miles southwest of Bordeaux’s city centre. This release is the 2006 vintage of its Grand Vin, a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Dark forest fruit, earth and pencil shavings mingle on the nose. The palate offers fine-grained tannins and good structure before a long finish. An excellent wine from an underrated vintage.
92 Vinous
- Bright red-ruby. Redcurrant, cherry, iron, brown spices and licorice on the nose. Begins lush, full and generous if not overly sweet, then tightens up with air, showing its rather powerful underlying structure. This sharply delineated wine will need a good seven or eight years in bottle to reveal itself.

Long Lived Reds and Whites

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
