Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in Graves, Pessac-Léognan and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. Here is a rare find from the 1966 vintage with notes of cigar smoke, aniseed and dried floral notes.
92 Vinous
The 1966 La Mission Haut-Brion is a vintage I have tasted many times, this last example courtesy of a half-bottle at the Four Seasons in London. It has a classic mature Graves nose of dusty black fruit, cedar and cigar humidor, plus traits of fireside hearth. The palate is well balanced with quite firm tannins and plenty of cedar-infused black fruit. A little drier than other vintages, but not austere, delivering good weight on the finish. Bottles invariably suggest that this is beginning to reach the end of its drinking plateau, so – large formats aside – broach this sooner rather than later. Neal Martin1st September 2021

Long Lived Reds and Whites

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
