La Mission Haut Brion 2011 showcases a notable blend, comprising predominantly 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The vineyard, established in 1540, is noted for its distinctive gravel soils, which contribute to the wine`s complexity. Production levels for this vintage were approximately 4,500 cases, highlighting its scarcity. The wine presents aromas of dark fruits, earthiness and subtle herbal notes. It is often regarded as a counterpart to its esteemed sibling, Château Haut Brion, reflecting the historic significance of its terroir within Bordeaux`s Pessac-Léognan region.

The 2011 La Mission Haut-Brion is well defined and very focused on the nose: blackberry, briary and graphite, quite mineral-driven with an impressive sense of energy. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good tension, quite precise with attractive black pepper and graphite notes, poised and showing good breeding on the finish. This is excellent. Tasted blind at the annual 10-Year-On tasting.

Long Lived Reds and Whites

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
