Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in Graves, Pessac-Léognan and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. Deemed a `monumental wine` by critic Robert Parker who awarded the `82 vintage a 100 point score, here is a beautifully mature Mission Haut Brion. Notes of black and blue fruits with truffle and pencil shaving complexity.

Full of signature La Mission silk and finesse, with a step towards the rich tertiary flavours of black truffle, tobacco leaf, incense and smoked earth. Seams of crushed raspberry fruits abound, with the turmeric and cumin spices of a warm vintage, just baked over campfire smoke. In this vertical it was tasted alongside the 1961 and 1989, and sits just a touch below them, just not quite delivering the fireworks of those other two exceptional vintages, but it's still a wonderful example of how 1982 continues to deliver. The last full year under the Woltner family, before they sold in November 1983.Jane Anson22nd July 2024

The 1982 La Mission Haut-Brion is very similar to the one tasted in Hong Kong. Quite exotic on the nose, much more than Haut-Brion. There is that signature eucalyptus touch on the nose mixed with plenty of black fruit, though it lacks the pedigree of the First Growth. The palate is powerful with pliant tannins, quite candied with just a touch of menthol, hints of blue fruit emerging towards the finish. Fine salinity throughout, it is a 1982 that seems to try too hard to keep up with its peers, yet it is still very pleasurable after four decades. Tasted blind at the "Two" dinner at Domaine de Chevalier. Neal Martin27th September 2022

Château La Mission Haut-Brion is one of the preeminent estates in the Pessac-Léognan appellation and is renowned for producing exceptionally concentrated and long-lived wines. The prestigious first label, La Mission Haut-Brion, is a near equal blend of Cabernet and Merlot, giving wonderfully focused wines with bramble and floral character. This illustrious estate also produces a stellar second label, La Chapelle de la Mission Haut-Brion.

Two beautiful whites are made: La Mission Haut-Brion Blanc, which is a aromatic, Sémillon-dominant blend with beautiful citrus and stone fruit, and a second white, La Clarté de Haut Brion (which also takes grapes from the Château Haut-Brion estate).
