The La Jota Cabernet Sauvignon 1997 is a mature single-vintage red wine from Howell Mountain, Napa Valley, composed entirely of Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The volcanic and red clay soils contribute to its structure and longevity. The 1997 vintage benefitted from a warm, dry growing season, leading to ripe, concentrated fruit. Under the guidance of noted winemaker Helen Turley, the wine underwent traditional fermentation and was aged for approximately 20-24 months in French oak barrels, enhancing its complexity. This Cabernet exhibits dark berry notes with hints of chocolate and tobacco, alongside firm tannins conducive to further ageing.

Deep, bright ruby-red. Aromas of dark berry liqueur and fine Corinthian leather; distinctly bretty. Very rich, sweet and leathery, with a slight dryness in the mouth. Finishes quite long, with chewy, unrefined tannins. Big, wild cabernet with no shortage of personality.Stephen Tanzer1st November 1999
